Starting on Friday, February 21, it’s WRCT’s Massive Music Weekend!

We will present 60 hours of non-stop music from our favorite artists, starting at noon on Friday, February 21, 2024, and continuing all weekend long!

Every half-hour we’ll feature a different artist, picked for your listening pleasure by our station members. It’s an incredibly diverse set of artists this year. You’ll hear some of your favorite artists, some you’ve forgotten about, and some whose music is brand new to you! We’ll also have five bands playing live, live, live in the studio!

Thursday, February 13, legendary rock ‘n’ roll singer Joe Lynn Turner joins your rocking attorney, Eric Jackson Lurie, on Court’s in Session. As the lead singer of Rainbow, Deep Purple, Sunstorm, and other bands, Joe has been one of the great rock voices on FM radio for nearly 50 years. This week JLT joins EJL to talk about his brand new single “Forever” that has been taking Europe by storm. Plus get the skinny about Joe’s current plans for his new album.

2002 Myron Cope interview on Radio 9

Twenty-two years ago, a young WRCT DJ called Jay Thurber was granted an interview with Myron Cope, legendary Pittsburgh sportswriter, Steelers broadcaster and creator of “The Terrible Towel.” Cope had just written a book called Double Yoi.

Due to poor audio quality, the tape was never broadcast. (Jay wrote a story for PBRTV instead.)

Twenty years later, a crusty middle-aged WRCT DJ called Jay Thurber found the tape and decided to see if digital signal processing (not easily available in 2002) could make the tape listenable. It did!

In honor of this weekend’s big NFL championship game, Uncle Jay will present this never-before-heard interview during his show, Radio 9, in the 1 o’clock hour on Saturday, February 8.
