Hey there party people. Summer has come and gone, leaving us in the bitter Pittsburgh cold that we have become so accustomed to. But fear not! WRCT’s Fall Schedule has just begun and we have many new and exciting offerings for you to keep you warm and dry.
Have you ever had a yearning to hear the sweet sounds of Mother Russia? WRCT has you covered with the Russian Hour with Maxim on Tuesdays from 11pm till midnight and Thursdays from 4pm till 5pm. If that’s not your jam, perhaps you may enjoy two hours of classic Italo Disco and Glam Rock on Bridge City Dreamer with DJ Tammy on Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm. Not into having fun? It’s okay. Come witness the apocalypse with Matt Squared on Sundays from noon till 1pm. Your life will never be the same.
And for all our loyal fans, don’t worry, your favorite shows are still here. Zombo will still be making your ears bleed on Fridays, we’re still providing cultural education with Gordon Spencer on Sundays, and we’re still keeping in touch with the community with What’s Really Good Radio on Monday nights.

Oh yes, the rumors are true: Two forces of unstoppable good in the Pittsburgh music community have teamed up to lead a full-on music revolution. WRCT is happy to announce its partnership with VIA, a collective of Pittsburgh artists, musicians and event producers merging lights & sounds to create amazing experiences, and we’ve got some exciting things in store.
Starting in September, WRCT will be airing a special VIA feature that will showcase some of our favorite acts appearing at VIA along with exclusive interviews and other marvelous content — oodles and oodles of content, to be exact! And we’ll even be giving away tickets to the festival throughout September, so you best keep your radio tuned to 88.3 if you want to see Battles, Four Tet, Dam-Funk, FaltyDL, Underground Resistance and a slew of other artists and performers courtesy of WRCT.
As VIA so eloquently put it: If WRCT and VIA were both people, we’d do that handshake where you rub the other person’s palm with your middle finger. We might have met our soulmate. via-pgh.com. Check it out.

The start of the 2011-2012 academic year is right around the corner, which means that droves of new students from around the country and the world will soon be moving in at Carnegie Mellon University. I mean, who doesn’t love driving 8 hours in a car with your extended family and unloading boxes all day?
Well, that’s why WRCT has partnered with CMU’s Housing and Dining Services to bring our brand-new members of the campus community a special broadcast. We’ll be bringing up-to-the-minute information on orientation, traffic, and yes, a bit of music this Sunday, August 21st. WRCT will be broadcasting live from the Morewood Gardens courtyard, next to the check-in tents — stop by to say hello to our staff and pick up a free bumper sticker!
Live coverage begins at 8am Sunday morning on 88.3 MHz, online at www.wrct.org, and will continue until 2:30pm. Regularly-scheduled programming will be pre-empted during this broadcast.
If you don’t have a radio with you, satellite broadcasts will be available on campus in the following locations:
- Wiegand Gym, University Center
- Rangos Ballroom, University Center
- Donner House
- The Residence on Fifth
Oh, and on behalf of all of us at WRCT: Welcome, class of 2015! Sure, you’re making us feel old now, but we’ll get over it. Just remember, you guys owe us some hoverboards in four years. You probably don’t even get that reference, do you. Fine, whatever.
