Welcome to WRCT Blogs!

January 31, 2012 // Blogs, Events, News

I’m very honored to introduce the latest phase of WRCT’s world domination. Now we can take over your brain through your ears and your eyes simultaneously… which is awesome.

But seriously, I’m really excited that we as a station now have this space to share our music-related ramblings. In addition to Paperhouse, our weekly column in The Tartan, our website will now feature a variety of blogs from our station members.

You can access the blogs page by clicking the “blogs” link, which is conveniently located at the very top of the page.

It’s going to be a slow start up for the first few weeks, as we get all of the kinks worked out, but we’re committed to bringing you quality content on a consistent basis — so prepare yourself.

Freeform blogs to match your favorite freeform radio.

Enjoy.

More Themed Broadcasts from Pinkney Hall

January 25, 2012 // Events, News
Join Kenny Joe for the next three Fridays on WRCT from 9 AM to 10 AM for three special themed shows.

From the man himself, here are the themes for the next three weeks:

January 27: This week, we will revive the Underwater Culprit’s Song Feature by playing several versions of a single song, in this case, Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.”

February 3: Nautical songs of all kinds will be featured.
February 10: Winter isn’t going away any time soon, so we may as well enjoy it. Cold weather songs will be featured.

If you want to suggest any particular song for these topics,  suggest a future topic, or simply request a tune, you can call 412-621-9728 from 8:30 to 10:00 Friday mornings or send me an email any time at wrctpinkney@gmail.com.

Pinkney Hall: Themed Broadcasts

December 23, 2011 // Events, News
On Pinkney Hall, Kenny Joe often plays one or two sets with a theme. Join Kenny Joe for the next three Fridays on WRCT from 9 AM to 10 AM for three special themed shows.

From the man himself, here are the themes for the next three weeks:

  1. December 23 – Once again we put the “Christ” back into “Christmas”! Most songs will be about Jesus Christ or at least contain a reference to Jesus Christ. And we’re not talking about the tired old Christmas songs that you hear on the muzak everywhere else this time of year.
  2. December 30 – On the eve of New Year’s Eve, we’ll play a few songs by musicians who passed away in 2011.
  3. January 6 – We’ll be preparing for our annual trip to Zlatne Uste’s Golden Festival in New York by playing music that fits into the expansive definition of “balkan music.”
