WRCT is welcoming Ken Stringfellow to our studios Tuesday, September 24 at 5:00 p.m.

Ken was a founding member of The Posies in the 1980s. In 1993, Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens recruited Ken to play bass when they re-formed Big Star, and they performed together until 2010. He has also toured and recorded with R.E.M., Neil Young, Mercury Rev, Ringo Star, and others.

Ken’s 2019 tour has focused on intimate venues, where he’s been playing much of his 2001 solo album, Touched, and performing fan favorites from the across his musical career.

He will be performing at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 24 at the Bantha Tea Bar in Garfield. That’s right, Ken will chat with WRCT’s The Mockster and play a few live tracks for the WRCT listening audience just before he heads over to the show.

You heard them play live on this week’s The Saturday Light Brigade, but Ernie Hawkins and Clint Hoover are returning to WRCT on Wednesday, September 18 at about 11:15 a.m. to play live on Whiskey Before Breakfast!

Ernie and Clint will be playin’ the blues for us and chatting with Mandorichard about their September 21 concert at UU Songspace, in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh. Ernie is an ace in a variety of guitar styles, and Clint is a harp wizard who loves to play the blues and jazz but also explores exotic new music. It’s gonna be fun!

At 9:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, WRCT and the Ace Hotel present Mike Melnyk DJing In the Weeds at the Ace Hotel, 120 S Whitfield St, Pittsburgh.

A world music aficionado, Mike joined the WRCT staff in 2014, and has hosted and produced a variety of shows. He currently hosts Tilt-a-World, a wild tour of music from around the globe, on WRCT every Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. When he isn’t on the air or DJ’ing events, Mike leads Spanish language activities through the Pittsburgh Spanish Language Meetup.

For his ITW spins, expect to hear a wide range melodic Latin American and African beats.
